4.B.2 Analyze and interpret graphical data (patterns) from tests of compression force vs. amount and type of deformation (temporary vs. permanent) to provide evidence that supports an argument that all objects behave elastically up to a specific limit beyond which permanent damage occurs (stability & change).
What to look / listen for
- Students make claims and defend their thinking using evidence.
- Students are selecting and including multiple sources of evidence from their own and others’ investigations.
- Students are organizing evidence so as to be persuasive in support of their claim.
What to do
Use questions to help students to organize and link evidence in support of their claim and to consider strategies for arguing persuasively for the validity of their claim. Here are some examples:
How does your evidence support your claim?
Does your claim rely on any inferences or assumptions?
Do you have enough evidence to support your claim?
Is there evidence to support a claim that is counter to your claim?
