What to look / listen for
Referencing gravity as an important force in the system
Identifying gravity as a force that would tend to pull objects downward toward the surface of Earth (when near Earth’s surface)
Identifying where in the space above Earth and the Moon and between them gravitational forces would be found. This field-based thinking is similar to their prior work done in Magnets Unit.
What to do
It is not expected that students will have all of these ideas developed at this point. This is an important pre-assessment of student thinking before they engage in the second formative assessment toward the end of this lesson: 14.B.
